Modem with automatic port
selection.
The PMD is a 9600 baud modem with four communication ports:
- telephone line connection
- 2 RS-232 ports
- RS-485 port
The function of the ports is set with jumpers.
The PMD offer the following possibilities:
Use as a regular modem for equipment with an RS-232 or RS-485 interface. The PMD modem is
suited for use with the PRO-NET and INTELLI data acquisition systems and many
industrial PLC's.
The PMD makes a very reliable modem connection, suited for industrial environments. The
configuration is as follows:

The
PMD can be used as a data switch. In the configuration as shown here, the data
switch is used to switch between a local PC and the remote caller. When the
modem is called and connects to the remote caller, the local PC is disconnected
from the PRO-NET system and the remote PC gets access to the PRO-NET system.
The PMD has a built in RS-485 to RS-232 converter. In the example shown here,
the INTELLI system has an RS-485 communication bus. It is connected to a local
PC through the converter in the modem. As soon as the system is called with a
remote modem, the local PC is disconnected from the INTELLI system and the
remote PC gets access to the INTELLI system through the RS-485 to RS-232
converter in the modem.
