| To mount the PT-100 in pipes, there are reducers available. With the reducers, the diameter of the sensor can be enlarged to a common diameter. There are 3-6 mm reducers and 6-12 mm reducers. The sensor have a diameter of 6 mm at the cable end and a diameter of 3 mm at the sensor element end. At large pipe diameters, the 6-12 mm reducer an be used at the thicker part of the sensor, providing maximum length of the sensor in the fluid. At smaller diameters, the 3-6 mm reducer can be used.
The sensor should be mounted in the pipe in such a way that the flow is turbulent at the place of the sensor. In practice, this is not always possible. The picture below shows an acceptable alternative.
It is important that the tip of the sensor is in the middle of the flow. The part of the sensor that is not in the fluid should be isolated very well. The cable should have a stress relieve. The sensors are fragile and can easily bend or break. Bending can cause wires inside the sensor to break. Protect the sensors well! Pt-100's are very reliable, characterized very well and suited for many applications. The Pt-100 sensors described here are used for the PIB-W heat meter.
